Berte

Berte

How do I miss you, my Friend?
Let me count the ways;
I miss your cheerful words and sunny smile
That blessed me all our days.

I miss Jeanie's cat, Grover, "guiding" you three steps ahead of you.
The look over his shoulder,
Then plod, plod, plod,
look back, etc.
He always stayed at his post.  He knew he had a job to do,
And he loved doing it.  Keep an eye on Berte.

I miss hearing you sing as you took your walks;
(to the tune of Daisy, Daisy)
"Grover, Grover,
Grover in the clover,
I love you,
Yes I do!
Yes, I do, I do, I do!"

I miss your wit and wisdom
I miss your laughter when I got perturbed at myself
I miss the quiet, serious look that overtook your face
When I proclaimed something that didn't sit just right;
And then I would wait for a very short, wise insight
That always made me wonder, "Why didn't I think of that?"
I miss you just being there and always  happy to see me.

I miss your funny observations:
when you ate your egg
in the morning.
"I wonder what the chicken looked like!"

I miss your dry sense of humor that you pulled out
of your bag of tricks from time to time:
"Could you do one thing for me before you go home, Dianna"
Sure, I said.
"Would you put the bucket back in the commode..., please...?"
You laughed so hard when you saw the look on my face!

And when I bumped your phone off the hook (often)
And it fell on the floor;
"That's nice", you'd say, flatly.
I'd look at you, perturbed with myself,
And you would laugh.

I miss doing the word games with you,
See who could get that last pesky question right.
I miss hearing you pray.  Actually, I can still hear it
in my mind and heart.  Your words seemed to be tacked down
as you went along, and then sealed with your 'amen'.

I love it that your Camillia bush popped open two beautiful
Blooms right at the top, on the last day of December.
Your beloved Camillia.
How we all miss you, Berte!

If
If only I
If only you
If only many
If only a few
If we had done this
If they had done that
If no one had done this
If someone would have done that...
No, no.  Don't try.
Sometimes
We just won't know why.

Ode to Norway
On such a blue-skied day
With so many beautiful youth
Gathered trustingly around him,
Swearing to protect them
From a present danger,
And they, not knowing it was he...

A savage wolf in a sheeps clothing
He stole their lives from them.
That beautiful face, concealing
The deep hate and violence
Lurking just beneath.
The face of evil.

Fairness

Porch lights on for Caylee Marie Anthony

What is fair about Caylee,
Besides her sweet smile,
Forever two years old,
Her large soft brown eyes
Full of trust,
Buried now
Under the soft earth
And an everincreasing
Cloud of noisy, accusing
Question marks looming
Large above her resting place.
Caylee, rest in peace.
Whoever put you there will not.

Where does the heart go when the mind is broken
And where does the mind go when the heart is, too;
Somewhere inside where words labor  unspoken
So close, but so far away, emotions labor, too.

News Blues

I've had enough of the news today;
The latest bad dude news is all they play-
Over and over 'til you know it by heart,
From start to finish, from finish to start!

So, turn off the tv and put down your paper!
Take a look at each other and go off on a caper!
Find some good music; yeah, you know where to turn,
Put some happy back where the news took it from!

Because....

IT'S JUST NOT ALL THAT BAD!!
TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE CUP THAT YOU HAVE!
WELL, YOU KNOW IT'S ALREADY HALF FULL!
AND SOON YOUR CUP WILL OVERFLOW!!

Because...

There's a lot of good coming down!
There's plenty of reason to turn this around!
It starts with you; it starts with me;
Let's make this world like God meant it to be!

Osama bin Laden, where is your heart?
A man with no conscience is not very smart!
The families you have saddened,
The nations you have maddened,
You have made hatred your passionate art.
